Year 24 is in the books! I told the Fireflies this morning I hope Junie B. has as much fun in 1st grade as we did together. (They will have to read their new books this summer to find out 😉)That goes to this amazing team of teachers I worked with this year, too. Happy Summer!

One last Pizza/Dance Party to celebrate a WONDERFUL year together in 1st Grade. I'm wishing all these Fireflies the BEST summer break and hope they stop by to see me next year. Remember...Once a Firefly, Always a Firefly! The Fireflies celebrated each other's accomplishments in 1st Grade this morning. Academic and Character awards were given. I loved that the kids were able to guess the recipients of the character awards just by my description of the student. This is a great group of kids who will do GREAT things in the world! How do we decode new words? With Phonics Dance Hunks and Chunks, of course! Check out all we know about how letters work together! (We recorder it twice because the kids wanted to do it again in their Firefly T-shirts!) One of our favorite end-of-1st-grade traditions at Austin is the Teddy Bear Picnic. Yesterday did not disappoint! The Fireflies surprised our Reading Buddies from 4th grade with gifts of our appreciation. Three of these girls are former Fireflies and read with students every morning from7:30-7:45. The other three students began working with our kids on Fridays after Winter Break. We appreciate their time and dedication to our class, helping us become better readers! A great return to tradition at Austin Elementary today as the 1st Grade walked to Pitts Park for the first time in three years! The Fireflies got to experience the life cycle of a quail in science recently. Long Acres Ranch partners with LCISD 1st grade elementary campuses and provides teachers with everything needed for the kids to have this great experience. We welcomed 4 babies: Ronald, Bob, Johnny, and Rosie to our classroom. They are back at the ranch, and will be released on the property once they are old enough!
The Fireflies enjoyed their very first Field Day. We had a great time buddied up with Mrs. Allen's All-Stars in 4th grade. Once again, thank you to all the parents who volunteered to man stations and helped me keep up with all our kids! The Fireflies first field trip was fun, fun, fun and hot, hot, HOT! Special thanks to Mrs. Lopez and all of our Firefly parents who were able to spend the day with us! |
