The Fireflies worked really hard last week on our first class story, The Trick-or-Treaters, The Big Bad Werewolf, and the Good Clown: A Halloween Tale. First we brainstormed characters and a setting. Next we came up with the plot of our story. Then I wrote the first draft as the kids dictated to me. The next day, we added details and dialogue along with a few other revisions. Finally, I typed it up and they did an awesome job working with partners to illustrate. The story really turned out great, and I think this is such a great way for them to learn about the writing process from start to finish!

The Fireflies had a great time celebrating Halloween with fun activities in each first grade classroom. Thanks to all the moms and dads who came and helped out! I had my camera out all week, and I somehow managed to miss getting pictures a couple of days during Red Ribbon Week. Oh, well...here are the Fireflies "Rallying together in Red," "Hats off to being Drug Free," and "teaming up against Drugs." Thursday, October 19th was Pink Out Day at Austin. We had a special visit from our class volunteer, Mr. O. we all got to try fresh tangerines from a tree in his backyard.
The first Monday of each month is college awareness day in LCISD. These Fireflies represented their favorite colleges well!
On Thursday September 28th, the Fireflies put on their best cowboy get-ups to celebrate the beginning of the Fort Bend County Fair!
