The Fireflies just finished their first class story, The Night the Spider Saved Halloween: A Tale of a Bald Eagle and an Evil Princess. I love when we have time to slow down and work together to create something that is so meaningful to our kids! If you ask your child what a protagonist or antagonist is...I bet they can tell you. Try asking them about the plot of a story...I bet they can tell you. Creative writing is a wonderful way to let our kids express themselves AND learn so much about the writing process. We spent all last week brainstorming characters and setting. Next we came up with a plot. Then they dictated a first draft to me, and we went back later and made revisions. I typed it all up, and finally came illustration day! I am so proud of their first book! Schools across LCISD celebrated Red Ribbon Week this week. The Fireflies represented with "Inside Out Day," "Crazy Hair Day," "Camo Day," Crazy Sock Day," and our favorite "PJ Day." we must've been too busy working a couple of those days to get pictures, but you can see the Fireflies love to dress up! Austin Elementary showed support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a "Pink Out" day. Check out the Fireflies in their best pink clothes. Mr. O has been visiting the Fireflies once a week since I came to Austin Elementary. Each weeks he tells jokes, does magic tricks, and listens to our Fireflies read books they have been working on with me in reading group. As you can see, we love Mr. O and he loves us!
The Fireflies said, "See you soon!" to a friend who is moving across town. We will miss her, but know her new school is SO lucky to have her!
The Fireflies wore their best cowboy and cowgirl duds to celebrate the beginning of the Fort Bend County Fair! |
